This inscription is depicted in many of the Spanish treasure books as proof that the Spaniards have been here for centuries.  Unfortunately this one is a fake.  It was cut by a man named Burt. It was found carved on a wall of Glen Canyon, upper end of Lake Creek bar in 1938 by the Stone expedition.

I ran into the same problems around the Tombstone, Az area. A local jeep tour operator has de-faced some great rock features and then lies to the vistors.
